Discover the Archives

Salisbury Cathedral has a unique archive collection dating from the 12th to the 21st century and an equally fascinating medieval library - from medieval handwritten books to glass plate negatives, wax seals to intricate leather bindings.  The archive is the Cathedral’s memory and includes both official records such as committee minutes and correspondence as well as documents about individuals in the Cathedral community – records of baptisms and marriages, photographs of  school children from the early 1900s and oral history recordings of Cathedral volunteers.  Today the Cathedral is in the middle of a cataloguing programme to better understand the collection and to develop an outreach programme to enable more people to access and enjoy the collections.
